The author selected 13 film awards, among them the Oscar, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild for film. Also included are the Tony for theater; the Emmy, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild for television; and the four best-known tributes awards (for example, Kennedy Center Honors). Entries are arranged alphabetically and list name, recognition, nomination (roman type), winner (italics), year, title (bold italics), and categories, such as “Best Supporting Actor.” Highlights or important facts on the actors and awards are included where warranted. For example, the entry on Peter O’Toole details his Academy Award losses to Gregory Peck, John Wayne, Marlon Brando, Robert De Niro, Ben Kingsley, and Forest Whitaker in the “Best Actor” category. The work concludes with an extensive bibliography on awards and an index of names and productions.
