Synopsis:
This second edition of "Faith in Focus" is a response to appreciative criticism of the first edition (1981)-that came from a broad, even international, range of readers, and from more than 600 students in the author's classes during the past eight years. There has been some expansion and condensation of the text, especially regarding Christian experience, in an effort to further explain and clarify. This edition includes, at the conclusion of each chapter, a section titled "Poetry, Prayer, And Praise-Passages for Meditation." These are an attempt to suggest, by means other than academic analysis, how the subject matter of theology finally transcends the limits of scholarly language. A study guide is included at the end of the book to help readers think through the content of each chapter. In this edition the author continues to use the Revised Standard Version of the Bible for quotations but has edited in some cases as to eliminate gender preferential language. àBContents God's Good Creation; Jesus' Double Significance; God's Spirit and Human Sin; The Spirit in the Church; Hope for and Beyond the World; and Postscript-The Bible and Theology; Index.
About the Author: J. Edward Barrett is Professor of Religion and Philosophy at Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio. He is the author of the book How Are You Programmed? (John Knox Press, 1971)
