After a horrific car accident in 2006, during the fall of his senior year in high school when he was fast becoming one of the best football players in the state of Alabama, Timothy Alexander was paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair. His life could have ended then, but to think that means you don't know Timothy Alexander.Since then, he has refused to take no for an answer. Tim Stephens, a Fort Payne, Ala., native, has led some of the nation’s most innovative news organizations into the digital age during a media career that began as a sports reporter at his hometown newspaper while still in high school. As Vice President at SportsManias, Stephens helped a startup company become the fastest-growing sports news app in the United States. Before joining SportsManias, Stephens led news organizations that captured journalism and broadcast awards and pioneered digital and social-media strategy. He served as Deputy Managing Editor at CBSSports.com and sports editor of the Orlando Sentinel, South Florida Sun-Sentinel and Birmingham Post-Herald, where he was named the nation’s top sports columnist in 2003 in the newspaper’s circulation division. Stephens was elected president of the Associated Press Sports Editors in 2013-14. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham and active lifetime member of the UAB National Alumni Society as well as a two-time winner of the UAB Excellence in Business Top 25 award. In 2017, he was elected to the alumni board of the UAB College of Arts and Sciences. He is founder and CEO of Tim Stephens Media LLC, providing consulting and services in publishing, digital content marketing and strategic communications. “Ever Faithful, Ever Loyal: The Timothy Alexander Story” is his first book. Timothy Alexander, a native of Birmingham, Ala., is a devout Christian, motivational speaker and life coach. As a senior at E.B. Erwin High School in 2006, Timothy was one of the state’s top-ranked football players. However, he was involved in a life-changing car accident that fall, leaving him paralyzed from the neck down. From that point on, Timothy was left to find his purpose in life while paralyzed. Timothy graduated from Erwin in 2007 and attended Wallace State Community College. After graduating from Wallace State, he enrolled at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he double majored in Criminal Justice and Communication Management. While at UAB, Timothy earned a football scholarship with the Blazers despite being a paraplegic. He was runner-up for the Mr. UAB Award, a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity and president of the UAB Gang Green student spirit club. Timothy graduated from UAB with a Master’s degree in Communication Management. Timothy is also a minister, keynote speaker and graduate of the John C. Maxwell Certification Program.
