Reviews: This is a solidly researched account of the 1988 explosion aboard Pan Am flight 103 that killed 270 people and the investigation thereafter. Emerson, a former senior editor at U.S. News & World Report , and Duffy, currently assistant managing editor at that magazine, argue persuasively that the United States can no longer play by the old rules in combating international terrorism. They urge the United States to get involved directly in the security arrangements for airlines operating inside and outside its borders. The authors may get their wish: after Lockerbie, a Presidential Commission was established to review international airline security; its report is due to be released this month. Intended for a general reading audience, this is an important addition to all library collections.
