A photography-loving fifteen-year-old and a Greek grocery clerk in Manhattan meet and help each other assert themselves with their parents.

Grade 5-7 Foley wastes no time: in the first paragraph, 15-year-old Alexandra falls in love at first sight with Heracles Damaskinakis while she is photographing his father's deli. In order to be near him, she wangles a job as a cashier in the deliand finds that Heracles already has a girlfriend. Both Alexandra and Hercules have trouble communicating with their parents. Alexandra has dreams of becoming a famous photographer, while her mother wants her to become a successful businesswoman; Heracles and his father never discuss his mother, who died years earlier, or his younger brother's hyperactivity. Throughout, both teens try to get the courage to bring up these issues with their parents. While the plot is not well developed, the story is a fairly pleasant one.
