Familiar Letters of Ann Willson

"Familiar Letters Of Ann Willson" by Ann Willson. This volume gathers a biographical sketch and a long sequence of letters written by Ann Willson, a 19th-century Quaker woman. The Biographical Sketch outlines her Rahway roots, early losses, vocation as a minister, and life in the Friends communities of New Jersey and Philadelphia; her letters, dated from 1820 to 1839 and beyond, record intimate friendships, family sorrow, spiritual counsel, travel to meetings, and the rhythms of Quaker devotion. The correspondence reveals her humility, charity, and steadfast faith, including views on Free Produce, abolition, education, and ministerial duty. Across decades, Willson writes to cousins, friends, and sisters, often addressing grief, hope, and the daily acts of devotion that sustain a life of service. The book offers a window into the inner life of a 19th-century American Quaker woman and the practices of early 1800s religious friendship and community. Originally published in 1850.
