But it’s a brand new decade, everyone is excited and positive about the future and Ruby is hopeful that 2020 will be the best year ever! Before long, Ruby’s life (like everyone else’s on the planet), doesn’t go quite to plan. Set against a backdrop of world events, Ruby finds herself stuck in lockdown, with her increasingly annoying parents, during a global pandemic. As everyone faces a strange new reality, Ruby continues to describe the ups and downs of her day to day teenage life in her journal. Her Mum is convinced there’s a deep spiritual meaning behind everything that is happening and plans to survive the lockdown entirely through zoom drinks’ parties and binge-eating. Her Stepdad is mourning the loss of the pub, whilst failing spectacularly to grow his own vegetables or take up the Ukulele. But he does manage to find a new outlet for his endless ranting. She can't visit her grandparents who are shielding and following all the rules to the letter, and her cousin is back and forwards to University like a yoyo. The rest of the family and everyone's friends are getting on as best they can. Everyone’s social life takes place mostly through a screen and the only person who is truly content with the family being forced to stay home is the dog.
