About this Item
Famous Fantastic Mysteries, was an American, (also published in Canada) science fiction and fantasy "pulp magazine" published from 1939 to 1953 edited by Mary Gnaedinger and published by the Munsey Company. It was started as a way to reprint the many science fiction and fantasy stories which had appeared over the preceding decades in other Munsey magazines such as Argosy. These 5 issues contain stories and articles by Charles B. Stilson, Robert W. Chambers, H. Rider Haggard, Murray Leinster, Robert E. Howard, Ted Sturgeon, and Ray Bradbury among others. Cover and interior art by Virgil Finlay, Lawence, Bok, and Frank R. Paul. Toward the end of its publication run (1953) It started printing original stories by such authors as Arthur C. Clarke, Henry Kuttner, Ray Bradbury, and C. L. Moore. These are an excellent example of the stories and art of the pulp magazine era. Do in part to the perfectly printed color covers, many SF histrorians credit FFM with giving big boosts to the art careers of V Finley, F.R. Paul, and Lawrence. Fair to very good condition; one has the title section of the cover removed, some pages have tears (none over an inch) and all are browned with age. Cover art work colors are good and all pages are readable. Seller Inventory # 1312-01
