2nd impression, 1906, of 1900 first ed.; 293 p., clean and unmarked--although front end paper shows evidence of pencilled writing that has been erased; TEG; other edges gauffered; lovely end papers with green Tudor design with red escutcheons and open book designs; many fine photo-portraits, beginning with frontis. with tissue guard showing DeWolf Hopper in "The Charlatan;" binding firm but beginning to crack at front gutter; azure blue boards are ornamented with pink irises and applique of oval gilt-edged photoportrait, uncredited, of an actor/singer striking a dramatic pose; tarnished but legible gilt lettering on spine that is somewhat soiled and faded. The photoportraits alone make this book a treasure, and of course it is a valuable resource to anyone interested in the history of musical theater in the United States in the Victorian era.
