Level 1A covers topics that are both relevant and interesting to teenage language learners, such as family, pets, sports, and music. A special introductory lesson guides students through the basics of Mandarin pronunciation, the Chinese writing system, and basic word order. \n\nLevel 1A is the first volume in the split edition of Level 1. Levels 1A and 1B teach the same content as Level 1 and are intended to be used for two years at the middle school level or in programs with limited instructional hours. Level 1A introduces approximately 180 new words.
