Farewell to a Bond

A profound spiritual exchange disguised as a love letter. A timeless teaching on how to love completely—and let go with open hands.
In the autumn of 2005, the Chinese writer Ge Ye composed thirty-four letters to a young woman he called “Dewdrop.” What began as a personal correspondence soon unfolded into a luminous exploration of love, freedom, truth, and the fulfillment of life. Blending the intimacy of a devotional confessional with the clarity of a philosophical treatise, these letters reach far beyond the personal—offering a shared spiritual treasure for every reader.
Translated by Rixin, this bilingual edition presents each letter twice: first in English, then in the original Traditional Chinese. Whether you read one language or both, you will hear the same steady voice—the voice of someone who loved without condition, and then released that love back into the infinite.
Inside this book, you will discover:
A radical redefinition of love as pure giving, free from the need for return.
Reflections on solitude, freedom, and the illusions of the modern world.
A gentle invitation to return to the simple, self-sufficient spirit within.
The “deep secret” of loneliness as the very ground of every noble virtue.
A teaching on how to transform pain into the nectar of boundless compassion.
Praise for Farewell to a Bond
“These letters are not merely about love; they are love itself, taking the form of words. They remind us that the highest human connection is not possession, but a mirror in which we behold our own soul.” — The Translator’s Note
“A book to be read slowly, like a long exhale. It dissolves the boundary between lover and beloved, between self and world, until only the quiet miracle of presence remains.” — Reader Review
“In an age of noise, this is a voice of stillness. It does not ask you to believe—it asks you only to feel, and in feeling, to remember who you are.” — Independent Literary Journal
