Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Jones co-authored with Eckert this book during the very early days of the IBM Naval Ordnance Research Calculator, the first supercomputer. The Naval Surface Weapons Center at Dahlgren, Virginia, was the primary site of US naval computing. The center's machine, the Naval Ordnance Research Calculator (NORC), was built at the Watson Scientific Computing Laboratory under the direction of Wallace Eckert. Rebecca (Becky) Jones, an Associate in Astronomy at Columbia, was Wallace Eckert's assistant for many years and (also with Eckert) specified the first program for the SSEC (the moon orbit calculations that would be used later in the Apollo missions.
