Professor Filippo Berto is Chair Professor of Mechanics of Materials at Sapienza Università di Roma, a position he has held since 2022, following a long academic career at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Since 2002, his research has focused on fracture mechanics, fatigue design, and structural integrity of materials and components.
He has received several prestigious international recognitions, including the Wöhler Medal awarded in 2021 by the European Society of Structural Integrity for his outstanding contributions to fatigue research. Since 2021, he has served as President of the Italian Group of Fracture, one of the most active international scientific communities in the field of structural integrity.
Professor Berto is Editor-in-Chief or Senior Editor of leading international journals in mechanics and materials engineering and has authored several hundred scientific publications.
Prof. Anton Du Plessis is Associate Professor at Stellenbosch University (South Africa) and Applications Scientist at Object Research Systems (Canada). His research spans X-ray tomography applications, additive manufacturing and engineering materials. He has published over 150 journal papers and is on the editorial board of a number of journals, and acts as deputy editor of Additive Manufacturing Letters and editor in chief of Tomography of Materials and Structures. He holds extraordinary professor positions at Nelson Mandela University and Central University of Technology (South Africa).
