My Favourite Cheap Eats: Calgary, Banff and Beyond

Breakfast or lunch under $15! Dinner under $20!

Boom or bust, it's always a good time for cheap eats. So whether you're hunting for a hot dog topped with Cap'n Crunch, a quinoa salad mixed with black beans and almonds, a Neapolitan-style pizza or even some pistachio-crusted lamb chops, this is your handy guide to thrifty dining.

John Gilchrist has packed over 160 culinary gems into this new book, and every one of them is certified CHEAP. Meaning breakfast or lunch under $15 and dinner under $20. From tiny hideaway diners and hole-in-the-wall joints to shawarma shacks, curry shops and sushi bars, they're all here.

Maybe you own John's first Cheap Eats guide. If so, consider this your hearty second helping. (If not, have a taste.) More than half the restaurants are brand new to this edition, and those that appeared in his first Cheap Eats have been revisited and updated.

So who is this John Gilchrist? He's one hungry and cheap guy. He also reviews restaurants for CBC Radio's Calgary Eyeopener and writes about food and restaurants for the Calgary Herald, Avenue, Swerve, and other publications. And he teaches Food & Culture programs for the University of Calgary when he's not sniffing out another deal.
