Original rust-brown cloth boards, moderately shelfworn with visible edge wear, light corner bumping, and a faded water stain to upper front board. Spine cloth intact though slightly loose along front hinge.

Endpapers show aging and a previous bookseller's pencil note ("Very scarce"). Inner hinge starting, one plate leaf detached but present and clean. One interior page torn. Paper shows typical foxing and age toning consistent with 19th-century American paper stock.
Illustration Page:
Engraved frontispiece and internal illustrations remain crisp and dark, adding strong display value despite minor toning.
Overall Grade:
Good+ to Very Good (Antiquarian Standard) ? structurally sound with all pages present; notable for rarity and completeness rather than pristine condition. See pictures for present condition.
Rare First American Edition (1884) of Fedora: or, The Tragedy in the Rue de la Paix by Adolphe Bélot is an exceptional find for lovers of Victorian literature and theatre: this is the first American edition of Fedora: The Tragedy in the Rue de la Paix by Adolphe Bélot, published in New York in 1884.
Bélot?s Fedora was one of the most sensational stage dramas of late-19th-century France ? a tale of betrayal, passion, and revenge that later inspired multiple operatic and film adaptations. This U.S. printing introduced American audiences to the darker emotional realism emerging from Parisian theatre circles.
