Spanish-born FÃ lix Candela (1910â"1997) is acknowledged as a master builder who designed and built innovative thin shell concrete roof structures in Mexico. This book goes further, however, hailing Candela as a structural engineer whose elegant forms should be considered works of art. Maria E. Moreyra Garlock is assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at Princeton University. David P. Billington is Gordon Y.S. Wu Professor of Engineering, professor of civil and environmental engineering, and director of the Program in Architecture and Engineering at Princeton University.
