Die Wirtschaftlichkeit der industriellen Produktion hängt vorwiegend von der richtigen Auswahl der Fertigungsverfahren ab. Dabei müssen die an Produktionsplanung, Fertigungstechnik und Konstruktion beteiligten Akteur*innen ausreichende Kenntnisse über die aktuellen technischen Entwicklungen haben. Dieses Lehrbuch soll bei der Vermittlung dieser Kenntnisse die Brücke schlagen zwischen theoretischen Erläuterungen und einer praxisorientierten Darstellungsweise und stellt dabei ein Standardwerk in Ausbildung und Praxis dar. Es werden die wichtigsten Fertigungsverfahren aus den vier großen Bereichen Gießen, Umformen, Trennen und Fügen behandelt, wobei eine hohe Anzahl an Abbildungen das Verständnis für den Lehrstoff unterstützt. In der vorliegenden 13. Auflage des Werkes wurden unter anderem der Abschnitt Fügen durch Umformen erweitert und das Laserstrahlschweißen aktualisiert. Die additive Fertigung gewinnt neben der Prototypenherstellung auch in der Serienproduktion immer weiter an Bedeutung und wurde daher deutlich ausgeweitet. Konstrukteur*innen erhalten darüber hinaus nützliche Hinweise zur zweckmäßigen konstruktiven und fertigungstechnischen Gestaltung einzelner Werkstücke in den unterschiedlichen Kapiteln. Digitales Zusatzmaterial wie Videos und PowerPoint-Präsentationen, welches über Links abrufbar ist, rundet die Wissensvermittlung auf anschauliche Weise ab.

About the Author
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Alfred Herbert Fritz kann neben Erfahrung in der Industrie auf Entwicklungsarbeit im Bereich der Ergonomie und des Umweltschutzes zurückblicken. Er leitete zahlreiche deutsche und europäische Forschungsvorhaben im Programm „Humanisierung des Arbeitslebens“. 1977 trat A. H. Fritz die Professur für Fertigungstechnik und Werkstoffprüfung im Fachbereich Maschinenbau an der TFH Berlin an (später Beuth Hochschule für Technik). Von 1980 bis zu seiner Pensionierung im Jahre 2002 leitete er dort das Labor für Produktionstechnik. Daneben war er mit der Leitung des Instituts für Lärmminderung an Fertigungs-Anlagen (ILFA) der Gesellschaft für Fertigungstechnik e. V. betraut.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ralf Förster erlernte den Beruf des Maschinen- und Anlagenmonteurs und studierte nach seiner Tätigkeit im Kraftwerksbau Maschinenbau an der TU Berlin. Im Jahre 2004 promovierte er am Institut für Mikrosystemtechnik der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität in Freiburg. Ralf Förster blickt auf mehrjährige Erfahrung in verschiedenen Projekt- und Führungsfunktionen in der Industrie zurück. 2011 wurde er Professor für Werkzeugmaschinen und Maschinenkonstruktion an der heutigen Berliner Hochschule für Technik, wo er seit 2013 das Labor für Produktionstechnik leitet. Darüber hinaus hat Professor Förster 2012 die Leitungsfunktion des VDI-Arbeitskreises Produktionstechnik in Berlin/Brandenburg übernommen.
Dipl.-Ing. Klaus-Dieter Kühn war unter anderem Oberingenieur am Institut für Werkzeugmaschinen und Fertigungstechnik der TU Braunschweig und leitete dessen Technologietransferzentrum. Er hatte die Geschäftsführung des Netzwerkes ForschungRegion Braunschweig inne und ist Sprecher von dessen Technologietransferkreis. Bis 2017 war Klaus-Dieter Kühn Referent der Wissenschaftlichen Dienste des Präsidenten der TU Braunschweig und als Lehrbeauftragter war er zudem an der Fachhochschule Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel, der Universität Hildesheim und der TU Braunschweig tätig.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Schmütz promovierte am Labor für Mikrozerspanung der Universität Bremen, hatte verschiedene Projekt- und Führungsfunktionen bei der BMW AG sowie der HAUNI Maschinenbau AG inne und war dort Leiter des Geschäftsbereichs Technologie und Produktionsservice. Von 2010-2012 lehrte Jörg Schmütz an der FH Kiel als Professor für Fertigungstechnik und seit 2012 ist er an der heutigen Berliner Hochschule für Technik als Professor für Fertigungstechnik und -anlagen tätig und leitet das dortige Gießereilabor.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Burghilde Wieneke-Toutaoui studierte Maschinenbau an der TU Berlin und promovierte anschließend am Fraunhofer-Institut für Produktionsanlagen und Konstruktionstechnik Berlin. 1990 trat sie die Professur für Industrial Engineering an der heutigen Berliner Hochschule für Technik an und bekleidete später für einige Jahre das Amt der Vizepräsidentin für Studium und Lehre. Seit April 2013 ist sie Präsidentin der Technischen Hochschule Brandenburg. Neben Ihrer Funktion als Gutachterin ist sie seit 1991 im VDI-Bereich „Frauen im Ingenieurberuf“ als stellvertretende Sprecherin und als Vorsitzende des Berlin-Brandenburger VDI-Bezirksvereins aktiv.
