Want to understand how fiber optic networks actually work without getting overwhelmed by technical jargon?
Looking for a practical guide that takes you from the fundamentals of fiber optics to real-world installation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance?
Modern communication depends on fiber optics, yet many beginners struggle to find a resource that explains the technology clearly while preparing them for real-world applications. Fiber Optics Explained bridges that gap with a structured, hands-on approach that guides you from the core principles of light transmission to the practical skills used in today's FTTH, GPON, and XGS-PON networks.
Written for students, aspiring fiber technicians, IT professionals, network engineers, and anyone interested in modern telecommunications, this guide breaks complex topics into clear, manageable lessons while emphasizing industry-recognized best practices. Whether your goal is to build a strong technical foundation, prepare for field work, or expand your professional knowledge, this book provides a logical learning path from beginner to professional.
INSIDE THIS BOOK, YOU'LL DISCOVER:• The science behind optical fiber communication explained in plain language
• FTTH, FTTP, GPON, and XGS-PON architectures from end to end
• Fiber cables, connectors, splitters, closures, and network components
• Professional installation planning and deployment workflows
• Fusion splicing fundamentals and cable management practices
• Optical power budgets, OTDR testing, and performance verification
• Practical troubleshooting techniques for common network faults
• Preventive maintenance strategies for long-term network reliability
• Real-world deployment scenarios and industry best practices
WHY THIS BOOK STANDS OUT:• Built specifically for beginners without sacrificing technical accuracy
• Progresses logically from basic concepts to advanced field applications
• Focuses on practical workflows rather than theory alone
• Explains not just how procedures are performed, but why they matter
• Covers both current GPON deployments and emerging XGS-PON technologies
• Serves as both a learning resource and a long-term professional reference
If you're ready to build a solid understanding of modern fiber optic networks and develop skills that translate into real-world confidence, order your copy of Fiber Optics Explained today and begin your journey into one of the world's fastest-growing technology fields.

Store description
**Please note our transit times are from the date of dispatch.** We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first purchase with us, or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
