In 1952 he received his Candidate of Science degree in mathematics forhis thesis on logical deduction rules in systems with a strong negation. In 1952 Vorob'ev joined the Steklov Mathematical Institute as a juniorresearch associate. Here he again changed the domain of his studies. Hisresearch concerned both algebra and probability theory. In 1954 he published a paper on summation of random variables on finite Abelian groups. This paper was a source of further investigations by various authors."
