Item description from seller

Used hardback, no edition stated, in very good, almost as new condition. 186 pages (with a tribute by T. H. Watkins) so tight, the book appears unread. Brown leatherette cover with gold gilt lettering on the front and spine edge. Pictorial dust jacket in very good condition with only minimal edgewear and handling. There is a store sticker with bar codes over the original bar codes. Owen Ulph abandoned academia at age thirty-eight to become a hundred-dollar-a-month cowboy on the Fiddleback, a ranch in the Great Smoky Valley of central Nevada. This collection of essays, first published in 1981, has become a classic of cowboy lore, filled with unforgettable characters, acid wit, and cosmic good humor.
