A Field Guide in Colour to Wild Flowers, by Dietmar Aichele, published by Octopus Books. The English version was first published in 1975 and reprinted in 1976 and 1977, translated from the original German edition published by Franckh'sche Verlagshandlung, Kosmos-Verlag, Stuttgart, and printed in Czechoslovakia. This is a hardback field guide with a colour-illustrated dust jacket showing various wild flowers, including honeysuckle, cranberries and an orchid on the front, and a water lily, poppy and sloe on the back. The spine carries a small illustration of a gentian along with the Octopus logo. Inside, the guide is organised by flower colour, with coloured page edges to match sections, and includes colour illustrations and descriptive text for each plant entry, giving habitat, flowering details and family names. The jacket shows some edge wear and light handling marks consistent with age. The text block edges show the coloured banding typical of this guide's design.
