A decent copy of the 1917 edition, expanding on those of 1914 and 1915. Printed green cloth with flap 14x19cm. (2), 326pp with pp274-9 on 3 folding leaves, (1), with colour folding map in front pocket (Lower Mesopotamia, Survey of India Oct 1916, 45x43cm, 1 inch = 32 miles), but without the loose index booklet sometimes present. The previous owner's details Lieutenant F.R.J. Gerard, IWT, RE, are printed to front cover and signed to the title page (dated Mespot / 1917), and map verso. Frank R.J. Gerard was at this time serving with Inland Waterways Transport, Royal Engineers. He went into business after WW1. An active Theosophist, he had been a devotee of Krishnamurti since 1915, and closely associated with Annie Besant and Charles Webster Leadbetter among others. Covers otherwise very good with some bubbling to the cloth and wear to spine ends, interiors mostly near fine with two archival tape reinforcements to front hinges, pencil notes to ffep, colour pencil underlines and sidelines to some pages, and map neatly folded with some marks and closed tears.
