The Final Assignment

When John, a journalism major, loses hope his last semester at Bingham University, he reluctantly boards a plane bound for California to reunite with a mother he successfully avoided the past four years. But when John locates an aged and worn out wallet, triggering a conversation with the window seat passenger, Danny Sprune, the dreaded trip becomes the most rewarding story a journalist could cover. After realizing that the contents of the wallet are the backbone needed for an acceptance speech Sprune is struggling with, John agrees to craft the speech himself, while listening to Sprune tell the story. It begins with the night he saved the life of Jack Carroll, a successful businessman, who was beaten and mugged for contents contained in a satchel. John finds himself increasingly drawn in to Sprune's tale about a group of people who were down on their luck yet, came together to help Jack pursue his dream and recreate the business plan stolen from him. As the group continues to envision a better life, they ride the coattails of their successful entrepreneur to move the business plan forward. But during this process it is not the success of the plan that changes them; it's the foundations of their character being molded by their mentor. A moving, inspirational novel about hard work, destiny and the way random encounters with strangers can alter the course of life forever, THE FINAL ASSIGNMENT will speak to any reader who has ever wondered what it truly takes to pursue a dream.
