About the Author
Empowering older adults to remain as independent as possible in the setting of their choice (their home!) is one of his greatest passions.
A recognized expert in the arena of aging services, Sam has given presentations on home care services and other aging-related issues from San Francisco to Boston.
Sam earned his BA and a post-baccalaureate Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He completed certification from the Society of Certified Senior Advisors, is a Certified Alzheimer's Educator, graduated from the Command and General Staff College, as well as a number of other programs at the JFK Special Warfare Center and School.
He is a combat veteran of both Afghanistan and Iraq where he commanded Special Operations Forces. Sam was awarded two Bronze Star Medals and both Valorous and Presidential Unit Commendations.
Community-minded, Sam volunteersat the Veterans Administration Hospital at Ft. Roots in North Little Rock, hasserved as a soccer coach with Upward Soccer, as a Cub Scout Pack Master, and amentor to elementary school children in his church.
Sam serves on the Board ofDirectors of Alzheimer's Arkansas, where he sponsors the yearly Hope for theFuture caregiver symposium. He also serves on the Board of Directors for theHome Care Association of Arkansas.
In his spare time, heenjoys gardening and volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America (both of hissons are active scouts).
