Finding Lily's Inner Magic: A Tale of Building Confidence (Paperback or Softback)

Even the brightest kids lose confidence sometimes. But with the right support, they can find the magic within themselves again.

This relatable and uplifting story explores four key social-emotional themes that help children understand and work through their feelings.

Themes and Emotions Explored In This Story:

✅ Bullying and Teasing

✅ Making Mistakes

✅ Feeling Hurt or Embarrassed

✅ Building Confidence and Self-Esteem

Lily is a joyful second grader who loves learning and making new friends. But one day at school, everything changes. When she stumbles on a word while reading aloud, a classmate mocks her in front of everyone. Embarrassed and unsure of herself, Lily’s confidence begins to fade.

After school, Lily turns to the one person who always makes her feel safe, Gramma Kate. With the help of warm hugs, gentle words, and a creative new activity called a vision board, Lily begins to rebuild her self-esteem, one affirmation at a time.

Together, they bake cookies, build a birdhouse, and talk about the feelings that sometimes feel too big to understand. And when Lily has the chance to stand up for herself again, this time with courage, something shifts not just in her, but in the boy who once teased her.

Finding Lily’s Inner Magic is an empowering social-emotional story for children ages 6–12, though its message resonates at any age. Perfect for use in the classroom, counselling sessions, or at home, this book encourages children to embrace who they are, speak up with confidence, and remember their self-worth—even when others try to dim their light.

Cathy Barker, known to many as Gramma Kate, is a mother, grandmother, and children's book author who has written seven books in a series called Lessons for Life With Gramma Kate.

Cathy created the series to help children build their self-esteem, understand their emotions, and know they are accepted for who they are-things she struggled to find as a child due to her upbringing.

Designed for children ages 6-12, her stories are also used by teachers and child therapists as a way to start meaningful conversations.

Cathy is also a podcast host and a reading and math tutor for children in kindergarten to grade 3, working under the same brand, Lessons for Life With Gramma Kate.
