Finding Your Way in the Outdoors, An Outdoor Life Book: Compass Navigation, Map Reading, Route Finding & Weather Forecasting

There are few experiences which quite compare with successfully leading the way over a wilderness route. A happy ending to an outdoor adventure brings a feeling of satifaction and self sufficiency to the navigator. With the help of the magnetic compass, success is made more probable though never assured and utter failure is rarely a serious matter. But does the weekend or once a year adventurer really need the help of a compass? Most of us will never set foot in the wilderness of untracked barrens or deep jungles. The answer is that a wilderness is any place where the consequences of becoming lost may be serious or even unpleasant.
