The Finger Lakes Region

The extraordinary beauty of the Finger Lakes region is well known to its residents and to the many tourists who explore it each year. What is not so well known is the region's unique geology. At the time of his death in 1965, O. D. von Engeln was Professor Emeritus of Geology at Cornell University. The author of numerous books on geology, geomorphology, and geography, he was a member of the Cornell faculty from 1907 until 1948 and a longtime resident of the Finger Lakes region.
