Fingerpower - Primer Level

Fingerpower Primer Level by John W. Schaum is a foundational piano technique book created to help young beginners develop finger strength, dexterity, and control. Designed for piano students just starting their musical journey, this book builds essential technical skills that support confident playing and future success. Its focused approach makes it a favorite among teachers and parents guiding new learners.

Inside this technique book, each short exercise targets individual finger development, helping students gain independence and coordination in both hands. Similar to an athlete’s conditioning, these exercises train fine motor control while reinforcing proper hand position. The clear layout, gradual difficulty, and concise explanations make lessons approachable and effective for kids and new pianists alike.

Ideal for lessons and practice, the Primer Level of Fingerpower strengthens the physical foundation every pianist needs before moving into more advanced repertoire. Teachers use it as a supplemental tool in lessons to ensure lasting technique through repetition and consistency. Students gain better control, faster response, and a more confident touch on the keyboard—skills that enhance performance and expression.

A trusted resource for educators, this edition integrates seamlessly into any piano curriculum. Its short, goal-oriented exercises fit easily into daily warm-ups or focused technique sessions. Parents and teachers alike appreciate how it motivates young learners to practice regularly and progress steadily.
