Add to basketAn uncommon copy of this sequel to Pierce Egan's popular work, Life in London. The phrase 'Tom and Jerry' and British usage of 'Tom and Jerry shop' originate from Pierce Egan's fictional work set in London. Without the illustrations called for. Pierce Egan was a popular British journalist, sports writer, and cultural commentator of the early nineteenth centuries. His popular book, Life in London depicted two young encountering both high and low life as they progress through London. The play adaptation of this work was the first play to have a continuous run of one hundred performances, but the lack of copyright protection meant that the book was pirated and plagiarised. Egan includes a riposte to the imitators and pirates in the present volume. Rebound in the publisher's original black calf binding over red cloth boards. Externally, sound. Rubbed to the boards with some light bumping to the extremities. The leather is rubbed and scuffed to the spine, with some calf missing to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, generally firmly bound, with the gutter visible between pages 64 and 65, 192 and 193, as well as 256 and 257. Pages are bright and clean throughout. Good.
