The Finite Element Method FEM is a standard method for structural analysis. For practitioners in construction engineering as well as for students, and introduction and all necessary calculations for the design of steel structures according to the Eurocodes (EC 3) are presented.

About the Author

Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Kraus studierte Bauingenieurwesen an der Technischen Universit�t Darmstadt. Von 2001 bis 2010 war er am Lehrstuhl f�r Stahl- und Verbundbau der Ruhr-Universit�t Bochum t�tig, zun�chst als Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter und nach der Promotion 2005 in der Funktion des Oberingenieurs. Im Jahre 2010 wechselte er als Oberingenieur und Abteilungsleiter Tragwerksplanung zur Ingenieursoziet�t Sch�rmann - Kindmann und Partner in Dortmund und �bernahm Lehrauftr�ge an der Ruhr-Universit�t Bochum und der Vietnamese-German University in Ho-Chi-Minh Stadt. Im Jahre 2015 folgte er dem Ruf an die Bauhaus-Universit�t Weimar zum Lehrstuhlinhaber der Professur Stahl- und Hybridbau.
Univ.-Prof. em. Dr.-Ing. Rolf Kindmann studierte Bauingenieurwesen an der Ruhr-Universit�t Bochum. Von 1974 bis 1989 war er f�r sechs Jahre als Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Ruhr-Universit�t Bochum und f�r zehn Jahre in verschiedenen Positionen bei Thyssen Engineering t�tig, zuletzt als Hauptabteilungsleiter aller technischen B�ros. Im Jahre 1990 wurde er zum Ordinarius des Lehrstuhls f�r Stahl- und Verbundbau an der Ruhr-Universit�t Bochum ernannt und im Jahre 1991 gr�ndete er die Ingenieursoziet�t Sch�rmann - Kindmann und Partner SKP in Dortmund, in der er als Beratender Ingenieur, Pr�fingenieur f�r Baustatik (Fachrichtungen Metall- und Massivbau) sowie als Gutachter wirkte. Seit Beendigung seiner T�tigkeit als Gesellschafter ist Herr Prof. Kindmann der Ingenieursoziet�t SKP weiterhin eng verbunden.
