Second edition, revised. xx, 348pp, 20pp of advertisements bound in at rear. Copiously illustrated with black and white drawings in text, including a double page spread showing the location in London of Police and Fire Stations and their communications links. In red cloth-covered boards, blind stamped and tooled front and rear, gilt titles on spine. 8vo. Boards are little rubbed at edges, some fading especially over spine, gently rounded at corners and spine ends. Slightly foxed on text block edges. Two previous owner's names on front free endpaper. A little cracking of paper over front hinge else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. A scarce and early text on the history of fire-fighting. This second edition includes much additional material, Shaw having brought it completely up to date, focussing on changes and developments in the London Metropolitan Fire Brigade. The advertisements at the rear, many of which are illustrated feature Fire Engines made by the likes of Shand, Mason & Co and Merryweather and Sons, as well as fire escapes, pumping machinery, hose-pipes and so on.…

Need to Return a Book?
You may return any book for a full refund of the book price for any reason, provided you notify us by email within two weeks of our dispatching the book that you intend to return the book, stating your reasons, and that the book arrives back with us within 30 days of that notification. Outgoing and return shipping costs will only be refunded if there was an error on our part.
Dispatch
We dispatch domestic orders three times a week, so your book will be sent within two to three working days of reciept of payment. International orders are usually dispatched within five working days. Expediated orders (domestic and international) are sent next day.

Shipping terms
Free economy shipping in the UK, regardless of the number of books ordered or the value of the order.
Overseas shipping costs are dependent on the weight of the books orders. You may therefore see different shipping costs for different books quoted alongside the price of the book. Books to be sent to Hawaii and Alaska will incur an additional charge above that quoted for delivery to the USA (this is because couriers charge more for delivery to these states).
Our books are dispatched regularly three times a week. Please inquire if you require expediated or 'best endeavours' shipping.
We use bespoke book boxes for most books; very small, awkwardly-shaped, multi-volume sets etc may have different packaging solutions to best protect them in transit. Our book boxes are made from recycled material and are fully recyclable. We are commited to minimising the environment impact of our book business and hope that you can support us in this endeavour.
