Mid-century history of the first 100 Years of the Coeur d'Alene Mining Region, St. Joseph River Valley, Idaho. Revised and enlarged second edition. In its heyday the primary metals mined in the valley were silver, zinc, and lead, totaling over a billion ounces of silver, 3 million tons of zinc, and 8 million tons of lead, ranking the valley among the top ten mining districts in world history. Much violence occurred between mine owners and miners, primarily over low wages and poor working conditions. Greenough's history here covers the bulk of the important Coeur d'Alene's mining history, though it is still minimally active. Includes historical photos (some aerial), facsimiles of letters and a large fold-out topographical map of the area. Scarce in commerce. 40 pp. 9" x 6". Comb bound. Tight, unmarked copy with minimal shelf wear and moderate age toning. Photographs of or additional information about this item are available on request. All inquiries answered promptly.
