Dickens' article, pp. 361 - 369; the entire journal, pp. [349] - 432. 8vo. 9-3/4" x 5-3/4" "When any thing great is to be done, first attempts are nearly always failures. The first bank-note forgery was no exception to this rule, and its story has a spice of romance to it." So begins Dickens in his recounting of the first bank note forgery, which first appeared in Household Words, Sept 21, 1850 [co-written with his sub-editor, W. H. Wills]. General wear & age-toning to wrappers. Some curling to upper corner of first few leaves. Prior owner pencil notations to front cover, noting Dickens contribution. A VG copy of a rare piece of Dickensiana, the first time we've ever been able to offer a copy. Original publisher's printed dark buff paper wrappers. The front cover with a publisher slip affixed, addressing advertising rates & journal distribution. Now housed in a clear archival mylar sleeve 1st US appearance [presumed]. Cf. Lohri, p. 254. Not found in Gimbel.
