Kindergarten-Grade 3-- "What is the moon ?," "What's inside a baseball ?," "How does an egg become a chicken?," and "Where does paper come from?" are a few of the 59 questions raised and answered here. The topics are arranged alphabetically by key words on double-page spreads. The questions are typical of those that youngsters ask and the explanations are simple enough for most of them to understand. However, the brief descriptions of such topics as what makes a car go only begin to explain the concepts involved and may require adult amplification. More a hodgepodge of miscellanea than a useful resource, this is an attractive volume that seems aimed primarily at parents for home use rather than library collections. The alphabetical arrangement and a detailed index make it easy to use, but it provides much less information than the more comprehensive "Tell Me Why" series (Grosset). --Louise L. Sherman, Anna C.
