I'm fairly sure the cover of this 147 year old book is leather but the leather is cracking off along the edges and the front and back of the cover have come off, along with some of the first and last pages. The spine is in pretty good shape, but it looks as if someone has tried to redraw the name of the book in ballpoint pen. Considering the condition of the outside, the inside pages are in pretty great shape. There is some dog-earing on some pages and some water damage on the bottom of around the last 50 pages of the book. It's a lovely book with 967 pages of stories and illustrations of the first 100 years of the United States.
