First Corinthians: A Commentary of the First Epistle to the Corinthians

"Conzelmann has a genious for brevity, and those familiar with Corinthians will generally read with great profit his incisive judgements....English speakers are indeed fortunate to have Conzelmann made available...first-rate."
―Raymond E. Brown, S.S.

"The Hermeneia series has established itself among the most useful tools available for biblical research, whether by professionals or by laypersons. These commentaries present solid scholarship, but the editors have not been afraid to include some fresh, even venturesome interpretations. Excellence in content is matched by handsome design and production; the books are a pleasure to use."

Hans Conzelmann (1915--1989) dedicated himself to New Testament studies at the universities of Tubingen, Heidelberg, and Gottingen in Germany. His The Theology of St. Luke, introduced a new epoch in the interpretation of the Synoptic Gospels, followed by landmark studies on Jesus and Paul. Among his many influential works are his three Fortress Press Hermeneia Commentaries: 1 Corinthians, The Acts of the Apostles (1987) and, with Martin Dibelius, The Pastoral Epistles (1975).
