About this title

Synopsis

A week-by-week plan for the first 30 days in a remote job: set up the room, protect the hours, and stay useful without becoming the person who never logs off.

You have a boss. You have a laptop. The workplace is now a spare room, a kitchen table, or a corner. This book is a field guide for that first month, not a freelance hunt, not a make-money-online pitch, and not a 90-day leadership tour.

Short paragraphs. Headers often. Cards you can copy onto a fridge. Composite houses and seats from kitchen tables, spare rooms, studios, and living-room corners. Home as a workplace that can stop.

What you actually get:
• How to use this in week one: a one-hour card before the first remote Monday
Day 0: chair, surface, door or signal, internet you have tested, promises you will not make on chat
• Days 1 to 2: camera, mute, calendar, name, and the first status the household can see
Hours that look like work: start, lunch, stop, written where people you live with can read them
A household treaty: kids, roommates, partners, dogs, deliveries, leaf blowers, scripts not hope
The commute you no longer have: put the fake extra hour back or name it
Meetings from a spare room, including what you will not attend on a phone in a car
• Chat vs the actual job, and a closed-door block for the work they hired
Isolation, lunch, and 2 p.m.: one leaving-the-chair rule
Timezones, quick pings, and the sentence you send instead of a 9 p.m. reply
• Week four: a remote 30-day note about setup, hours, and what still breaks at home
• Closeout runbook for days 31 to 60: signal, blocks, mute, treaty, stop
• Back matter: 30-day calendar, week-one card, copy-ready lines

This is not HR advice, legal advice, immigration advice, tax advice, or wage-and-hour counsel. It does not promise you will pass probation, get a raise, or get promoted. Follow the handbook, the offer letter, and the clock they published. If a page conflicts with those, they win. No time-theft tricks. No looking-busy theater. Not a manager manual and not an office-onboarding map.

Open to the week-one hour. Do that. Stop. The rest of the book is how not to spend four weeks proving you are dedicated by never logging off.
