Von Neumann's ideas laid the foundation for modern computer design and programming, some of which appeared in the original 1945 report on the EDVAC (Electronic Discrete Variable Automatic Computer, the report now mostly unobtainable) which played a crucial role in the development of early computer architecture, describing the architecture of the EDVAC and the concept of a stored-program computer, which became the basis for modern computer architecture.
