Gr. 4^-7. Part of the First Facts Reference series, this book will be useful primarily as a source for quick facts or dates. There's not enough information for reports, but an extensive bibliography of children's and young adult resources is supplied. Each double-page spread is attractively illustrated, a minichronology pinpoints major events of the period, fact boxes provide additional information, and a very short time line of U.S. history places the events in context. Parents and social studies teachers may find this to be much more useful than will librarians, who will probably have more detailed sources for the same information already available in their collections.
