First Families of Vancouver's African American Community: From World War II to the 21st Century was a cultural program founded in 2007 in which community members documented the stories of African Americans who migrated to southwest Washington state during the Second World War.
Project members identified African American families who settled in Vancouver at mid-century to record their stories in a book, released April 2012, and other associated materials for the public.
Working partnerships with NAACP Branch 1139, Clark County Historical Museum, Washington State University Vancouver, Clark College and other local institutions reinforced the project’s commitment to present a mosaic of the community’s cultural history for the enrichment of all.
All proceeds support Vancouver's NAACP.
