The First Inheritance: Earth Was Never Ours

THE FIRST INHERITANCE
Earth Was Never Our:

Two million years ago, something came to Earth.

Long before the first cities rose, before humanity recorded its first history, an ancient insectoid civilization crossed the stars and discovered a young, fertile planet. They studied its oceans, reshaped parts of its ecosystem, buried impossible machines beneath its surface—and then vanished.

Humanity eventually emerged, built civilizations, fought wars, conquered continents, and reached toward the stars believing Earth belonged to us.

We were wrong.

Now, after two million years, the original inhabitants are coming home.

Astronomers first detect what appears to be a cluster of objects entering the solar system. There are no radio transmissions. No demands. No attempt at communication. The enormous vessels simply continue toward Earth with terrifying precision.

When humanity finally makes contact, the truth is more frightening than an invasion.

The visitors are an ancient insectoid species whose civilization existed millions of years before humanity. Their technology is so advanced that human weapons are almost meaningless against them. Their minds process information at speeds beyond human comprehension, and their biological engineering has allowed them to survive across geological ages.

But there is something they do not know.

When they left Earth, humanity did not exist.

To them, two million years have passed and they are simply returning to a world that has always belonged to them. The cities covering the continents, the satellites surrounding the planet, and the eight billion intelligent beings now calling Earth home are an evolutionary impossibility they never anticipated.

Humanity faces an equally devastating discovery.

Evidence hidden beneath ancient rock reveals that the visitors may not merely have lived on Earth.

They may have created the conditions that allowed humanity to exist.

As governments prepare for a war they cannot possibly win, scientists uncover dormant alien structures awakening beneath the oceans, deserts, polar ice, and even beneath humanity's oldest cities. Machines silent for millions of years begin transmitting a single message to the approaching fleet:

THE INHERITANCE IS READY.

But no one knows what the inheritance is.

Earth itself?

Humanity?

Or something buried inside the human species that has been waiting two million years to awaken?

The returning civilization does not see itself as an invading army. Humanity is not its enemy.

We are simply the unexpected species occupying their home.

Now two intelligent civilizations stand on the brink of a conflict neither anticipated—one fighting for the world it inherited, the other returning to reclaim the world it never surrendered.

And as the ancient machines beneath Earth awaken, humanity discovers the final terrifying truth:

They did not abandon Earth two million years ago.

They left it to grow.

And now they have returned for the harvest.
