First Lessons in Bach - Book 2: Piano Solo (Paperback)

First Lessons in Bach - Book 2 is a piano solo sheet music collection featuring selected keyboard works by German Baroque composer Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Walter Carroll, this Schirmer Library of Classics volume is intended for pianists, teachers, and music students seeking authentic Bach repertoire for lessons, individual practice, recital preparation, and classical repertoire development. The collection is identified as SMP Level 4 (Intermediate).

This edition includes piano solo notation with introductory text and performance notes designed to provide musical and interpretive context for the selections. The collection contains a curated group of dances and character pieces drawn from Bach’s English Suites, French Suites, Partitas, and other keyboard works. It is well suited to studio instruction, independent study, performance preparation, and personal repertoire building.

Studying these works offers pianists the opportunity to explore Baroque phrasing, articulation, ornamentation, rhythmic precision, independence between the hands, and expressive interpretation through original keyboard literature. The carefully selected repertoire encourages musical growth while allowing performers to experience the elegance, balance, and craftsmanship that define Bach’s writing.
