Item description from seller

Printed paper covered boards with black leather spine. 164 pp., plus seven diagrams at the end. Provenance: short dedication from the author to M. Clarkson, dated 1853. We believe M. Clarkson to be a relative of mathematician James A. Clarkson, from whose collection this book came. James Clarkson was an American mathematician known for his work in number theory. He served as an operations' analyst during World War II, earning the Medal of Freedom. A treatise on learning the mathematics of geometry. Written by Alpheus Crosby, who attended Dartmouth at the age of 13. He wrote many books, and served as an educator in Newburyport, Massachusetts, among other places. Crosby was an abolitionist, and edited a journal about it during the Civil War, The Right Way. After the war he edited textbooks aimed at educating formerly enslaved people. GOOD condition. Moderate toning, some soiling and minor staining to the covers. Moderate scattered foxing in the interior.
