The First Principles Of Knowledge (1901)

The First Principles of Knowledge is a philosophical treatise written by John Rickaby and originally published in 1901. The book explores the nature of knowledge, examining its origins, validity, and limits. Rickaby begins by defining knowledge and discussing the different types of knowledge, including sensory knowledge, conceptual knowledge, and intuitive knowledge. He then delves into the sources of knowledge, such as experience, reason, and authority. Throughout the book, Rickaby engages with various philosophical schools of thought, including empiricism, rationalism, and skepticism. He also discusses the relationship between knowledge and belief, arguing that while belief is a necessary component of knowledge, it is not sufficient on its own. The First Principles of Knowledge is a comprehensive and accessible introduction to epistemology, suitable for both students and scholars of philosophy. It remains a valuable resource for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of the nature of knowledge and the ways in which we acquire and justify our beliefs. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
