Synopsis
A colorful collection of nearly two dozen familiar sayings--such as birds of a feather flock together, too many cooks spoil the broth, and more--help young readers learn proverbs
From School Library Journal
What do you say when . . .? Everyone, at some time or other, has been at a loss for words. This offering for children brings into sharp focus many of the phrases often said to save or explain a situation--"many hands make light work," "too many cooks spoil the broth," etc. Through the expert meshing of simple text and engaging, informative illustrations, this picture book is a delight for the eyes. Each page contains a "what to do" or "what to say" circumstance; an appropriate response is given (and shown) within the confines of the frolicking illustrations. These are rendered in cheery watercolors with a wide ethnic representation, serving to reinforce the theme's universality. With its clearly executed pages, upbeat illustrations, and simple text, the book is well suited for group presentation, and, although many of the pictures depict very young children, older readers will also benefit from its contents. --Mary Lou Budd, Milford South Elementary School, OH
