Add to basketOctavo, 8 x 5.5", pictorial wrappers, 32 pp, illustrations from photographs. A scarce fundraising booklet for Fisk University. The first half of the text discusses the importance of a liberal arts education for African Americans, beginning with an essay by Fisk's president stating that "A liberal arts college for the Negro, such as Fisk University, is a necessity both for the Negro and the nation." The text argues that giving leaders an "intellectual training" in the liberal arts, rather than industrial training, is necessary to overcome the disadvantages faced by the race. The next few pages discuss the advantages of Fisk in providing this education, noting that "Fisk University is a college and always has been. It has never included any industrial training.because it preferred to produce the leader of the intellectual type." The last few pages discuss the financial crisis faced by the college and solicits funds. Throughout, the booklet is illustrated with views advertising the Fisk campus. Two in OCLC (Howard University and the University of Munster). A nice copy with a hint of toning to pages and hint of foxing to rear cover, slight creasing to covers.
