The Five Day War

This novel is based on an actual invitation from the Saudi Arabian government to the author to serve as a surgeon in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Dr. Rob Savarin, a Board-Certified surgeon, is completing his residency in colo-rectal surgery when such an invitation arrives unexpectedly. The problem is that Dr. Savarin is not only Jewish but also Orthodox and a devout Zionist. The offer is quite enticing, as in his “Walter Mitty” personality he fantasizes about acting as an agent for the Israeli Mossad. After Rob accepts the post, the Saudi Defense Minister, and number one in line for the Saudi throne, ruptures his colon, and Dr. Savarin becomes not only his surgeon but also friend and adviser. Through a series of exciting events, the Prince is blackmailed by the Mossad. The ensuing negotiations yield a partnership between Israel and the Sunni nations in a battle against nuclear Iran. As the newly united nations prepare to launch a stealth attack against Iran, despite resistance from the U.S. and UN, Rob wages his own war in the treacherous areas of love and long-lost family.

“First time novelist Dr. Mendy Ganchrow has crafted an exciting adventure, based on an invitation he actually received from the Saudi Arabian Government to serve as a surgeon in Riyadh. This is a well-written story based on Ganchrow’s vast experience in pro-Israel activism and serious research into the modern Arab-Israeli and Sunni-Shia conflicts. As the plot develops, we witness a union between Israel and the Sunni nations versus Iran. The ensuing 5-day war leads to a realignment of the Israeli-Arab political, cultural, and economic relationships. A sense of realism brings the characters alive in this fast-moving epic.” —Alan Dershowitz, Harvard University Professor Emeritus, author of Trumped Up: How Criminalization of Political Differences Endangers Democracy

“In this fast-paced book, you may well be reading tomorrow’s mideast headlines today. Ganchrow’s novel is the highest caliber of historical fiction. He shows an insider’s knowledge of the Arab/Islamic war against Israel. His understanding of the intricacies and complexities of evolving US-Israel relations, aspects of Arab/Israel relations, and of the Jewish groups’ involvements in these issues were as informative as a high-level seminar at a top think-tank or university. Read this book now before you read it in your newspapers and internet and TV news.” —Morton A. Klein, National President, Zionist Organization of America (ZOA)

“Dr. Mendy Ganchrow has managed to write a suspenseful, provocative and riveting novel about a Mossad agent and a Muslim girl in Saudi Arabia, which given the dramatically shifting middle east climate, sounds incredibly like today’s nonfictional battle between Israel, the Sunni world, and the Ayatollah's Iran.” —Rabbi Marvin Hier, Founder and Dean, Simon Weisenthal Center

“One would not expect someone whose main areas of expertise are colo-rectal medicine and traditional Judiasm to write a highly entertaing thriller. Dr Mendy Ganchrow, counterintuitively, has done just that. This is really a fun read.” —Richard stone, Professor of Law, Columbia University, former Chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations
