The Flicker Behind His Eyes: Author’s Spirit Edition

The Flicker Behind His Eyes: Author’s Spirit Edition
by Decima Watkins

This is the spirit version of my memoir — a reimagined telling of love, loss, and memory, written the way it came to me: part soul, part memory, part truth.

In this book, I write in a way that’s true to how I feel. Sometimes I say “you,” even when I mean myself. Because I was there — as me, and as you. I was watching myself feel it all. My spirit was remembering, and my heart was speaking. That’s how it comes out. It’s not wrong. It’s just how love and grief speak when they’re bigger than one voice.

When my Grandad lay silent in the hospital, I felt his spirit move. Not away — but toward something. Toward Nan. Toward the life they lived. This is their love story told through spirit, where time bends and memory lives.

A companion to the original memoir, this version is poetic, spiritual, and personal — written not just from my mind, but from my soul. For anyone who’s ever felt their loved one close even after they’ve gone.
