A Floating Feather and Other Musings

A Floating Feather and Other Musings is the final work of Roderick "Seadog" Orme, written during his last years on Florida's death row. Part parable, part memoir, part spiritual reflection, these pages trace one man's attempt to make sense of a life marked by violence, loss, friendship, regret, and unexpected grace.

At the heart of the book is the story of a feather cast from the wing of a great eagle-a feather that believes itself discarded and purposeless, only to discover that even the smallest life can become a source of shelter, comfort, wisdom, and hope for others.

Alongside the parable are Seadog's reflections on childhood, addiction, friendship, unconditional love, laughter, and the surprising lessons learned during more than three decades of incarceration. Written in a voice that is by turns humorous, searching, tender, and deeply human, these essays reveal a man wrestling honestly with what he had done, what he had lost, and what meaning might still be found in the time that remained.

Published after Orme's death in 2026, A Floating Feather and Other Musings stands as a testament to the enduring human search for purpose, connection, and redemption, even in the most unlikely places.
