San Juan Marina near Oljato in Monument Valley, Utah was an isolated place in 1987 when the author and her husband arrived to manage the new marina on the San Juan River arm of Lake Powell. They fell in love with the surroundings and the Navajo people and culture they encountered. In addition to the daily joy and satisfaction of friendship and hard work, the couple dealt with floods and siltation, murder and drug-runners, and graft, greed and corruption. This is the story of Wanda and Terry s sojourn there and how they came back to complete the circle many years later.
About the Author: Wanda Morlan Eilts grew up in rural Indiana but always had a hankering to venture farther afield. When she met her husband Terry they set off to see the West. Several decades later they live beside Lake Powell in Arizona and look back on their time working at and eventually managing marinas at lakes and reservoirs in Arizona, Utah, Nevada and Texas. Their year-and-a-bit at the San Juan Marina had a huge impact on their lives and outlook and they are delighted to share their memories of the events and the friends they experienced there.
